OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan — A 19-year-old Michigan male has been charged with murder after authorities say he shot a Lyft driver in the head, killing her.
Kemarrie Davion Phillips is accused of killing Dina Terrell, 49, of Eastpointe, Mich., early Friday morning. Phillips is being held without bond in the Oakland County Jail.
“This is a shocking and violent tragedy,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement released by his department. “This poor victim is lost to her loving family and the ]responsible person should be held fully accountable. Random violence will never be tolerated.”
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called at about 5:15 a.m. Friday in response to a traffic accident. They found Terrell’s vehicle, a Nissan, on the curb wedged between a utility pole and a street sign.
Terrell was found in the front seat with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities say. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Terrell’s cellphone was found inside the vehicle and the Lyft app was running, the department says. The app still had directions to an address in Pontiac. Detectives identified Phillips as a suspect and he was arrested without incident.
Phillips is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3. If he is convicted of the murder charge he could be sentenced to life in prison
